Just for fun!

Sandra Jasionowska and Linda Ng kindly tagged me in their recent articles listing ten things people might not know about them. (Here are links to Sandra’s and Linda’s articles.)

After struggling to get started, I ended up with 12 items which I trimmed down to ten. Hopefully, I made the right choices…

1. I met my late wife on a blind date

I answered a lonely hearts advert in my local paper. We got along so well that she turned down everyone else who answered her ad.

Neither of us had ever done anything like that before. From then on, we were hardly ever apart for 21 years.

(See: How I Lost My Soul Mate in My Forties, Then Found I Was Autistic.)

2. Superman was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema

The year was 1978, and the ten-year-old me was experiencing the cinema for the first time.

I didn’t go to another cinema again until 1992, for one of the early dates with my wife.

I’m sure we’d planned to watch something fairly gentle and romantic.

But we ended up watching Universal Soldier instead because our chosen film was fully booked.

(I wish I could remember what it was.)

3. I’m squeamish

I do not like gory TV shows or movies.

I don’t even like to think about all the things inside my body that keep me alive!

Having said that, I did watch Mr Robot a few years ago!

4. I’m not interested in many of the stereotypical male pastimes

I don’t watch sports such as football and rugby.

Even though I like cars, I don’t watch motor racing.

I don’t go down to the pub every night to drink alcohol.

(I prefer soft drinks, tea, and coffee.)

5. I like light bulbs

Even though I don’t have a collection of light bulbs, I do like looking at old-fashioned bulbs — the ones with filaments.
