About Alan (AJ) Autistic Widower
My old About page was too long, so I moved it here…
Last updated: 24 September 2023
I’m a 55-year-old widowed parent living in Northern England with my two teenage sons.
I’m here to share life experiences and opinions, and I usually publish a few times a week — or daily if I’m doing a writing challenge!
So, how do I summarise myself?
My dad had a big influence on me, and I still remember him saying:
“It’s the people that make the difference.”
Over the years, I have come to understand his words, and how the people in my life matter more than material things.
But that still doesn’t tell you much about me. People often define themselves by their job. So maybe I’ll try that approach.
My work used to be electronics and software development, until I quit in 2012 to look after my wife and our children.
At some point in the last ten years, I started writing. I enjoy connecting with people — and there are stories I need to tell.
(Okay, I admit it: Nobody else will listen!)
Perhaps I should list a few of my interests… here goes:
🎵 Music (mostly 70s and 80s funk, soul and disco)
💭 Memories, Nostalgia, and old TV shows
💾 Old technology (e.g. vintage microcomputers)
🚗 Cars and driving (though I don’t often drive particularly far)
🧑🏻💻 Electronics and programming (only occasionally these days)
I nearly forgot: I’m Autistic and have ADHD, but I didn’t find out until I was in my forties after I lost my wife. In general, I try not to let it define me — which is ironic given that I initially called myself “Autistic Widower” here… I really didn’t think that through!
The best way to get to know me is to read some of my stories.
