Autistic Widower’s Newsletter #6

8 April 2022

Welcome to this week’s newsletter.

I’m experimenting with a new format this week:

  1. Stories
  2. Recommended Writer
  3. Personal Notes

1. Stories

Weird Workplace Stories 15: The Temperamental Goose

He didn’t seem to like my old boss!

It’s been a while since I published a story in this series. A different one has been stuck in the pipeline for some time because it’s proving difficult to write. So I switched to this fairly light-hearted story in the meantime.

The picture was taken in the early 90s at my workplace. It includes Buster, the goose mentioned in the story.

The Danger of Indecision

Avoiding decisions can ruin lives

I’m starting to regret not taking much action in the years since my wife died. Doing nothing often seems like the safe option. But now it’s starting to feel like it might be too late.

I created the image by printing the words on paper, removing a control knob from my Propellerhead Balance audio interface, placing it on the paper, taking a photo, and then doing some editing on my computer.

It took so long that I started wishing I’d used a stock photo from the internet!

Are You Overwhelmed by Clutter? These Methods Helped Me

I struggle to let things go, but it’s always worth the effort

I suddenly felt the inspiration to write something that might be helpful, and this is the result.

I’m still living with too much junk, so I wasn’t sure if I should be giving out advice. But I have made some progress in decluttering, so I decided to go ahead and publish it.

I also included links to podcasts and books that I’ve found helpful.

The photo was taken about a year ago when I was donating some items to a charity shop during a clearout.

My Article Showcase

I update my showcase article every so often; the last time was about a month ago. So I’ve done a complete rewrite after looking at my latest statistics on Medium.

Previously, I’ve used text links because they are clean and compact.

This time, I’ve gone with Medium’s standard embedded links. To me, they don’t look as clear and concise. But at least they include pictures.

2. Recommended Writer

This is the part where I talk about another writer on Medium.

This time, I’ve chosen Jan Sebastian.

Jan had a stroke and cannot walk or talk. Does she let that stop her from writing? Nope!

Jan covers a wide range of topics, and I like her no-nonsense approach to writing.

She’s also written some helpful articles about writing on Medium that make new writers feel welcome; her words certainly helped me when I felt unsure.

3. Personal Notes

It’s been a hard week. My late wife’s mother is not well. And I’ve been feeling uncertain about some aspects of my life.

Perhaps that’s why I only published three stories this week. (I also updated My Article Showcase — but that doesn’t really count.)

I’ve been thinking about making a further reduction to the number of articles I publish each week. Next week, I will aim for three stories plus a newsletter, and see how it goes.

Finally, I would like to thank all my readers and subscribers. I hope you find something that amuses or interests you.

Best wishes, and see you again next week.
