I’m Still Here After Nearly 2 Years and 200 Articles on Medium

Grab a cup of tea (or whatever you prefer) — I’d like to tell you about my Medium journey, which got off to a slow start

First steps

I created my Medium account on 23 September 2020.

Before that point, I’d shared my opinions on Twitter, Facebook, and Blogspot. But I didn’t know much about Medium. I perceived it as a place for proper writers — not people like me.

It felt like I had nothing to lose by trying. So I reused some of my old Facebook posts and copied a few articles from my Blogspot site. Then I waited nervously. What if people actually started reading my articles?

I need not have worried.

Nothing happened

Part of me was relieved. After overthinking and imagining I would receive unpleasant comments, having no comments at all made it feel like I’d dodged a bullet.

Going forward, I continued writing and publishing on both Medium and Blogspot. But it felt like I was hiding in the shadows.

First ever earnings

Having joined the partner program immediately, it took a mere three months for the money to start pouring in. Okay, trickling. Occasionally.

Month 3 (November 2020) was the first month with any earnings.

I received… $0.07

Yes — 7 cents!

I could hardly believe it! It felt amazing to have found a way to receive money for my writing. But nobody could call it a life-changing amount. 🤣
