Life as a Double Parent Dad: A Poem

I don’t see my children as obstacles to overcome. But this poem gives a taste of life as a “double parent” dad — one who is trying to cover both roles after losing their wife.

Stephanie, my fiancée, wrote it for me when I was struggling to answer today’s challenge topic. (I only contributed a few words.)

The wet and windy playground,
surrounded by mums in cliques.
Arranging playdates for their little dears,
after term time weeks.

Feeling on the outskirts,
not fitting in the crowd.
A double parent — single dad,
simply not allowed.

No backup plan,
no one to help,
face parenting as one.
All the trials and tribulations,
all the tasks that must be done.

Those annoying crafting projects,
that schools just love to send.
Paper mache, plastic pots,
